Watched Time Bandits the other night. I've seen before maybe 10 times, but it's been years since. Still love it! Not even the Star Treks and Terminators of today can hold a candle to this magnificent flick. 9.6/10
Re: Movie Review ThreadOptions
05-29-2009 06:45 AM I caught it this past weekend. I really liked it. It was pure Terminator but was somehow more mature than I expected. I'll go with the 8.0/10.0 ZeroG gave it. I'm also glad I saw it on the big screen instead of a TV. It needed the extra room. ![]() Re: Movie Review ThreadOptions

06-16-2009 09:21 PM Watched The American President the other night for probably the seventh or eighth time. Still my number 2 favorite movie of all time. Michael Douglas was stellar, as was Michael J Fox, Martin Sheen, and Annette Benning. Done by my favorite director as well, Rob Reiner. 9.9/10.

Watched Gran Torino the other day. Been wanting to and finally got around to it. Great flick. Clint did a great job. I was lauching the whole way through the movie with his blatant racist remarks being a major part of the entertainment for me. The story is pretty good and turns out not exactly how you expect. I give it 8.5/10. Great flick.

Was that the one where he hated the Jews and thought they were plotting against him?
Oh wait, that was real life!
Good flick, though. Gibson was one of my very favorite actors until it became too embarrassing. (Kind of like Danny Glover; must have been something in the water while they were filming Lethal Weapon.) Re: Movie Review ThreadOptions
06-17-2009 09:21 PM ^ He's still my favorite actor. My respect for him is on a professional level. While his off-screen persona is a mixed bag, I'll never know him personally. Same goes for Cruise. He was acting like a total whack job there for a while. Doesn't bother me though. I only like him for his movies.
So many people decide not to see movies starring actors whose lives are less than desirable. If I thought that way, I'd never go the theaters again! : )
Re: Movie Review ThreadOptions
06-17-2009 10:11 PM
Agreed. Everyone gives Cruise shit about always playing the same role, but I don't care if he plays that role well. Top Gun is probably my favorite movie ever. I must've seen it for the first time when I was about four years old. I certainly didn't care if it was cheesy back then, and I still don't.

06-28-2009 10:15 PM Just watched Eagle Eye and The i Inside.
Eagle Eye was a bit OTT for an Enemy of the State style of movie, but the pacing was amazing. I had to pause the movie part way through just to catch my breath! Of course there were plot holes that I just had to look the other way for, but still in the end it was an entertaining if far fetched ride.
The i Inside was a jumping back and forth film where you don't really know where or when your frame of reference should be anchored. I'm still making my mind up on it, but I do like movies that aren't linear, like Memento or Lost Highway. The i Inside was not in the same league as those movies but I think it was mostly good. When I sort out what I think really happened then I'll know more! It also had Wilson from House who had the same hair style I had about 10 years ago. I'll have to
My wife also rented me Max Payne, since she knows I like the games and once expressed an interest in the film when it was still just in the previews stage. I hope I am not too disappointed in it since the reviews weren't particularly glowing. I have a fairly forgiving taste in movies though.

Saw Gran Torino, 4/10 and I thought Vietnamese were called "gooks" and not Koreans/Chinese? Hell, I don't know but it was after all a decent "you kids get off my lawn" flick and <<Spoiler***>>>, the kid gets the car.. Saw Pineapple Express (6/10), the only reason it gets a 6 is because I'm personally completely in lust with Seth Rogan... I might have enjoyed it more had I been as high as the characters are supposed to be. Also saw the Zemeckis(?) Beowulf, and man they've got to start making porn with that sh*t (cgi)! Good flick, worth a rent.

Not serious, see the winky? Re: Movie Review ThreadOptions
07-01-2009 03:52 PM Role Models 8/10 Genuinely funny R-rated comedy with good performances by Sean William Scott and Paul Rudd and the nerdy kid from Superbad. I really liked it, I laughed a lot and it was also genuinely touching. Don't see it with your parents though, that would make for uncomfortable viewing, it's got a lot of filthy jokes. Also I've never heard so many nasty words being uttered by such a small child in a movie. Also there is a middle aged lady in it played by Jane Lynch who is really, really funny, she's a gifted comedy actress.
The plot is about two guys being sentenced to community service, they have to be a buddy to some children, one is a really foul-mouthed and misbehaving 10-year old, the other is a nerdy teenager who does LARPing (google it if you don't know what LARP is). At first they hate it, but after a while they start to bond.
