The captions say "laugh and cry" ... but it almost sounds like "effin' cry"   Which is it? 

The song goes "Lucky there's a family guy, lucky there's a man who, positively can do... blah blah blah *cue stewy*, he's  a family guy!" > fanfare ends.

He does say "laugh and cry".  If you listen to the commentary on one of the seasons (I think it's 1) one of the commentary people makes a crack about it being "effin' cry" and the creator corrects him.

Reallyl?  I could've sworn I also read in a closed caption that he said "effin' cry".... otherwise I'd not have been on the ropes about it.

It's also changed quite a bit over the course of the show.  If you watch Season 1 you'll notice that it really does sound like "effin cry" but as you work your way into Season 2 and Season 3 it becomes more noticably "laugh and cry".

It's possible it was originally "'effin cry" at first, but then the networks didn't like it and had to be changed to "laugh n cry"

I've always thought it was laugh and cry. I can see how it could sound like effin' cry but when you compare it to the rest of the lyrics, laugh and cry fits much better.

I sort of thought they might have pulled some trickery with the same guy voicing "laugh and cry" as well as "effin' cry" and mixing the two together. That way, they can prove that it say "laugh and cry" while it still has the sound of the other.

I also thought it said "laugh and cry" too. I'll listen more closely next time it's on.

Reminds me of that billy idol song 'mony mony'.  The part in the lyrics when he sings 'you make me feel' and the chorus in the background is supposably saying 'mony mony', you know, it repeats over and over and over again.

Well what the chorus is really saying is 'like a pony'.  - So billy says 'you make me feel', chorus answers: 'like a pony!' In fact they really are saying that in the billy idol version of the song. How this song got popular we'll never know, it reminds me of Ace Of Bass and their classic, 'the sign' - total shit.

It's official, tonight I read "effin'" in the closed captioning... so it must be that!  Those cc typists can't be wrong!

It's wierd, in the season 1 DVDs, it sounds like "effin cry", but in the 2nd season it clearly sounds like "laugh and cry".

Ah jesus....He does not say effin cry. Listen to the commentary on any DVD, Seth McFarlane and gang have to repeatedly tell people that he says laugh and cry, not effin cry.
