that's cool. test it out in games a little too and let us know what you think. also try using it on some random surfaces.(it's more for the "cool" factor of playing with electornics)

edit: kinda repetetive statement.

Who needs cords? I have had one for about a week - doing testing on it. I will probably write a short FS review on it, keep ya posted.

Sweet!  I've tried the cordless mice, but I've found that they too heavy for gaming, but if your happy, then thats all that matters.

Gamers...Mx1000 is alright, but it's a mental issue to why gamers will always prefer to have a mouse with a cord.

Re: My wife got me a MX1000

Yes, because with a cord, you KNOW the interaction between mouse and comp is 100% consistent and that the consistency will not degrade over time due to power loss. Those two factors are something many people will not give up just for cordlessness (and this isn't something that's likely leave the desktop anyway, so the benefits of portability are minimal for most people) Sorry for ranting, but cordless mice are given more credit than they deserve imo :\

Re: My wife got me a MX1000

I think it's about market segments....

As per my opinion, the day I buy a gaming "LAPTOP" is the day I can afford both a gaming PC and a laptop and feel the need to own both... but just as stated above... I don't buy cordless unless there is a reason for it, exactly because of the idea of a battery eventually dying... (yes, even if it takes 100 years).

However, if you buy a laptop (that happens to be a sweet one), cordless mice are suddenly a nice option for you to have.

Don't cordless mice need the "charger" or other device to be plugged into the usb port for it to work? If so, then wouldn't that infact add more bulk and clutter to a laptop situation than just having a corded mouse plugged directly into the laptop with no charger or extra device? Or am I missing something?

Re: My wife got me a MX1000

your missing something... YOu can put the transmitter device anywhere within a 5 foot radius and it will allow the mouse to work fine. IE, laptop on desk, wireless keyboard and mouse on pullout shelf under desk... no clutter..

Re: My wife got me a MX1000

Ok, but how exactly is a mouse and a transmitter better than just a mouse with a cord? What exactly is the benefit? Seems the same as making a dvd player that can wirelessly transmit video and audio to your tv...but it sits in the same spot in relation to your tv as a wired dvd player would...

Re: My wife got me a MX1000

one receiver(i said transmitter) will take requests from both your wireless keyboard and wireless ouse, thus only needing one cord instead of two(mouse and keyboard). And the receiver is not big enough to warrant a complaint about space issues...

Ok, that makes more sense. But I still see the benefits as being quite minimal in a desktop situation..:smileysad: (I'm trying to justify the benefits of wireless peripherals so I can treat myself to some holiday presents, but I'm not pulling it off :smileyhappy:)

I have an MX1000. This is an awesome mouse. I was really very skeptical about a cordless Li-ion mouse. Previously i was using a Logitech Dual mouse (had 2 optical eyes), which was really freakin awesome and still is. The MX1000 dosent feel that much heavier than the Dual mouseman. The reaction time is flawless. The battery life span is VERY long on one charge, and if you place it in the cradle nightly, you will never have any power issues. Also, the power indicator on the mouse is very clear and easy to read. You will always know when the power is going down. To be completely truthful I dont see much precision differance between this mouse and the dual mouseman, I just wanted to get a new mouse. Got tired of looking at my old one.

The cradle isnt a problem at all. I put the cradle on my desk near my CRT ( even though they say you shouldnt, it still works 100% fine ) I plugged the USB into the back of my keyboard ( MS keyboards have USB ports on the back of em ) and it looks fine, No extra cludder. Sits next to my Z-680 brain. =) definatly a nice mouse, but if you dont have the extra 75 or so bucks burning a hole in your pocket, dont freak out. The mouse is amazing, but not any better than a good optical mouse. Oh one more thing. Logitech has always made mice that fit very nicely in your hand. This mouse is by far no exception to that rule. It is the most comfortable mouse i have ever used. contoured perfectly to the hand.

Re: My wife got me a MX1000

Ya, thus far I love the mouse. My old mouse would, for lack of a better word, get "lost" on my wood grain finish. As a result, I would randomly spin around in circles at the most inopportune moments. This one doesn't do that. I just recently discovered I can scroll sidewards too with the wheel mouse. Only useful so far on large images, but it's nifty. I've also got to say that the mouse is very comfortable. It's significantly more heavy than the intellimouse, but hell, the intellimouse was light as a feather. This one has the weight of a "C" or "D" battery. If that's too much for you, sorry. But I like it.

Ooo ya, it also scans up to about 1/2 an inch off the desk, so you gotta pick the mouse up a little farther when you wanna move it without scanning.

I know of a much more affordable solution to that problem; a mouse pad :smileywink: :smileyhappy: And they apparently come in deluxe models as made evident from the front page :smileyvery-happy:

Ya, but also because of the mess behind my computer, the chord would always pull even after I tried to fix the rat's nest. This is just easier. Besides, it was a Christmas present.

Re: My wife got me a MX1000

I picked up an MX1000 from Office Max for $55 a few months ago and haven't looked back. I was skeptical about wireless mice as well but there is no difference in response time compared to a wired mouse. The reason I had to get this mouse wasn't because it's 'laser' (I notice no performance gain) but rather the ergonomics and buttons on this bad boy. It has a forward-backward rocker button where your thumb is, and in between those is a task switching button. Say goodbye to using alt+tab all the time.

Bluemagic, do I have to install the mouse software to do that, or is it something I'm missing?

I got one of these bad muthas for christmas. It umm how to put this... kicks ass up and down everything. It is so freakin responsive, it is incredibly comfortable, the buttons are positioned perfectly, it scrolls well, and it is HEAVY. i like heavy mice. it seems like i have more control with them.

Only complaint is that the drivers are freakin annoying and the forward/back buttons won't work in Mozilla if you use the Logitech drivers, stupid shit like that. If you let windows control it though, it works perfectly, although the application switch button won't work. It is kind of a pain in the ass to use that though. It doesnt just switch apps, it brings up a new window and you have to then choose what window you want to go to. Somewhat stupid. I haven't had a chance to use the side-to-side scrolling yet.

Plus it is a sweet looking mouse. Sits next to my new logitech elite keyboard, which is also badass, and makes me look like an incredible nerd (which i am).

ON a scale of "sucks" to "kicks ass", i would give this mouse a score of "it's the shit."

Edit: oh yeah, with this mouse i was able to get like 10 headshots in a row with a sniper rifle in UT2k4. They told me I was wicked sick. if you are worried that you can't snipe, don't worry. If you can't, its your fault, not the mouse's:smileywink:

The problem with the front/back buttons not working in firefox was actually addressed in the Help that came with the driver install. Just assign those buttons to 'misc' and they'll work in IE, Explorer and Firefox the way they should.

I haven't tried using the mouse without its specific drivers, so I don't know if the task switching button will work without them, but I would assume they would not.

Re: My wife got me a MX1000

My old logitech wireless optical mouse in games only used to for some reason just out of the blue disconnect at the most inappropriate time. When Im just about to shoot someone and boom, connection lost. Now im a bit squimish about buying wireless mice. Im liking my cord logitech mouse and Compaq keyboard right now.

Yeah, you do need to install its drivers - there is a little mouse-options suite called sitepoint, that allows to customize button functions, etc - as well as enable the alt-tab button.

What I found REALLY annoying is that the install tried to force me to install windows media player 9 .. and I couldn't uncheck it.... I was very pissed off at this, so, as it was installing the drivers, and after that's complete, it tried to install WMP9 - I just ejected the disc.  Raw solution, but it worked.

The only downer about this mouse is the top "auto-scroll" button, it is too high up, no one can reach that while holding the mouse normally.  And I do love the side-to-side button -f or when editing in photoshop while zoomed in on the document.

I have used it for 10+ days straight with NO recharge, and it still has 1 bar left .. I'd say it has good battery life!

Re: My wife got me a MX1000

Just as a habit with ANY new hardware i get. I almost never install the drivers off of the CD that comes with the device. I would much rather go download the newest and up-to-date drivers from the Manu website. BTW there are much newer drivers for the mouse on the logitech website than what comes on the CD

We just got this Logitech MX 500 (corded) from Dell. Well, when they shipped it, they sent only the installation CD, no drivers, or manual. On the Dell site it says that there are 7 programable buttons, yet i have no menue to do this from. What gives?

Good article :smileyhappy: I do however feel that this advancement will be the stopping point with mice for quite some time. Trackability is already very "analogish" if not perfect with current opticals, so a laser mouse will pretty much just give that last bit of assurance. I do wish they would make one with a cord, but then again my mx500 performs perfectly, so no need for an upgrade :smileyvery-happy: Now if only logitech (and every other 3rd party console peripheral maker) would make a game pad worth buying...:smileysad:

Why do you need a cord? trust me. you don't. There is no lag whatsoever, and the battery life is not a problem at all. it takes likde 10 days to drain it, and it recharges in 3 hours. just stick it on the charger at night, and you are golden. I dont think i can ever go back to corded mice. ever.

Re: My wife got me a MX1000

Because a corded one would give the same (if not better) performance for less money. Let me ask you this, why use cordless when it is not being used in a situation where it would be at all beneficial but it costs more? I suppose one day I'll have no choice but to use a cordless mouse as that will probably be all that's available. Right now, cordless mice have just begun to get good, so I'll wait until the technology has been perfected to a point of "severe overkill" performance being available :smileyvery-happy:
