FiringSquad's CPU Overclocking Database

One of the projects we’ve been working on the past few weeks is a CPU overclocking database:

Re: FiringSquad's CPU Overclocking Database

Whoa, I'm actually really surprised Brandon has a whopping 51 posts here on the forums... I thought he had none.  Anyway, yea guys test it out, send any bugs or comments either to Brandon or me (via PM) or email - either way, it'll get to me =P

Re: FiringSquad's CPU Overclocking Database

Also, when we have more entries, we were planning to make a better output display for people who want to browse the results better, right now it's just broken down into CPUs.

Right now, an edit function for reg'd users hasn't been implemented yet - and as a reg'd user, you are supposed to be able to see your entries easily - this is not yet done, but soon it will as we add more features to the site.

Also, sorry for making the form so long - we want this to be a kickass database.

Re: FiringSquad's CPU Overclocking Database

Ok, I just submitted my week 24 E6400.  I'll do my A64 next, and if I finish my dry ice tube before school starts I'll add some numbers from that.  Anyway, here are some suggestions:
When you go to view other people's entries, you're listed as the submitter.  I tried logging out and looking at it, when I did that, anon was listed as the submitter.  Next, for Super Pi times, you should specify how many digits.  It should be fairly obvious when looking at the times, but it would still be nice.  Same for 3d mark, you're going to get a lot higher score in '03 than '06.  It would be nice to add a field for stock voltage as well, especially on athlon 64s, as that changed throughout the different revisions.  Cores and sockets would be nice as well, especially for Athlons.

Re: FiringSquad's CPU Overclocking Database

I just went to add my A64, but you don't have any options for the old S754 Newcastles.  I know it's probably not as much of an issue these days, but just poiting it out.  You'd probably be fine without it as I don't think their are so many of those floating around these days.  Oh, and it might be nice if you had someplace to link CPUZ verification.

Thx for the feedback - what's CPUZ "verification"?

Re: FiringSquad's CPU Overclocking Database

I meant validation, anyway, you can upload your CPUZ results and the dump is verified.  Here is one of mine:

Oh, and CPUZ reads Cas wrong for DS3s, it's actually 5-5-5-15, but it displays it as 3-5-5-15.

You need to add Opteron 100 series CPUs!

Very cool - so the cpuz validation is really just a URL field?  I can do that.

Re: FiringSquad's CPU Overclocking Database

The 3Dmark06 score is meaningless really as it is GPU dependent.  Since we are not listing GPU overclocks, I think you should get dir of that or include GPU overclocks.

A simple screenshot upload (of Pi completion, 3Dmark score, Smartfan, etc....) would be a plus as well.  I mean without it, people can write ehatever they want.

That's why you do CPUZ validations.

Re: FiringSquad's CPU Overclocking Database

CPUZ Validation uploads a dump of your CPU-Z information, analyzes it to make sure it's legit, and then provides a link with the info.  Screenshots can be shopped, CPU-Z validation cannot.  Click on the link I posted above, you'll understand what I'm talking about.  World record databases for overclocking use CPU-Z validations for proof.

Re: FiringSquad's CPU Overclocking Database

Yeah, I use CPU-z, but I did not know it provided a link somewhere on the interet to check results.  I guess someone could photoshop a screenshot, but that would be pretty sad.  Let me know how it makes the results public I am insterested in checking that out.  I was thinking of a screen like this, btw:

I've just added support for the 100 and 1200 series Opteron CPUs, as well as the Newcastle Athlon 64s to the db...

Haven't OC'ed yet, but I realised that I forgot to grab the info off my processor before I put it in and finished building my rig.  Darnit.

You can delete my bogus 3800 X2 from the database, I put in my Opteron instead.:smileyhappy:

Look on the box, it's their as well.

For Chem:
First, you need to be using the latest version of CPU-Z for it to allow you to upload, so download that if you haven't already.  Go the far right tab,  look towards the bottom of the window.  Their you'll see a button that says validation, click on it.  From their you'll get a popup with the validation steps.  Follow those steps for validation, or if you just want to see the final result, go to the link I posted above.

There's a bug I think.  I somehow posted my info 3 times.  I think it happened when I looked at the final results twice and one time I clicked on Opty 170 instead of VIEW and it posted my results again.   There are a couple of other members with multiple results too.

Other than that...Nice job!!

Great idea this OCDB. Sadly, I've just been lazy when it comes to OC'ing my machine and I haven't done it yet. Much like how I haven't cleaned up the wiring yet also. Crap. I can't even do it this weekend as I'll be out of town. Stupid inlaws.

Re: FiringSquad's CPU Overclocking Database

Note that the 3DMark06 score is the *CPU* score, not the standard GPU score. It's actually pretty reliable as an indication of multithreaded CPU performance, though not really any more useful than SuperPi.

Yeah, mine jumped over a thousand points going froma Celeron D at 3.6 to my E6400 at stock.

Re: FiringSquad's CPU Overclocking Database

Submitted my Opteron 165 rig!  Great idea guys.  I am really glad I had a picture of my CPU lying around, otherwise I would not have been able to get the batch and week information.  I don't think it was on the box of my Opteron, at least I looked and couldn't find it.

Re: FiringSquad's CPU Overclocking Database

^ That would almost make too much sense if they put it on the box :smileywink:

Brandon or Pongky, I was jsut looking at the initial page you are brought to when you visit the OCDB, and there are no links to SuperPi or 3D Mark 06.  Not sure if it really matters since they are optional items at the bottom of the sheet, but I figured if people had no clue where to get either, you could help them along by posting links up top.  Just a thought.

Re: FiringSquad's CPU Overclocking Database

Good suggestion.

What do you guys think, should we make the CPU-Z verification a requirement or an option?

The upside of making it a requirement is we'd have all results 100% verified, the downside is I know some people aren't going to want to take the time out to verify their OC with CPU-Z and therefore we'll get less entries into the database. I think the honesty policy has worked so far, but who knows what will happen when more anon submissions go in there.

It should be an option, not everyone has the newest version of CPU-Z. I had a hard time finding it.

An edit feature would be nice. I messed mine up, it should say Athlon 64 X2 3800+ (Socket 939), now it says AM2, oops. My bad for not reading before I submit. :smileytongue:

Okay, thanks for making me look stupid. I didn't try google whan I looked, this was about a year ago, but I have found it. Maybe a link with the db would be nice for someone like me. Yeah Vis, why don't you send me that manual, maybe I could learn something instead of getting mocked.
