K, I've barely made it into the complex in the actual demo... I'm about to read the preview you guys put up (then I'll add more comments)...

All I can say is: On HARD mode it's ACTUALLY HARD!!! lol

Impressed with game engine though. : D

Obviously it's not polished, and it's their follow up to Serious Sam, which was like Doom1 revived... It's very nice to see the first of DX9 graphics coming out.

I agree, the demo did not impress me because the gameplay and AI was very sketchy at times.  I hope that they clean things up before final release.

You're confusing CryTek with Croteam.

Re: Far Cry Preview discussion

CryTek did the old GeForce 256 T&L demo, didn't they?  Something like X-Isle?  All I remember was that there was a pretty cool looking demo back around the time with dinosaurs and some of the best looking trees I had ever seen being rendered in real time.  I'm guessing the released some other games using the technology, but Far Cry is their latest, and it looks pretty sweet.

I don't think they released any games with that engine actually.

Re: Far Cry Preview discussion

Just looked at www.crytek.com, and you're apparently right.  Unless they licensed their engine out to someone else that released a game?  That demo was something like four or five years ago... did no one ever do anything with the engine other than the demo?  Crazy....

Wow, you remember that too. I posted about that like last month but no one caught up on it.  I'll dig up my post right now.... It was a demo for the Geforce3.  I was the only one out of all my friends to have purchased a Geforce3 for $415 but I played that demo.  It was REALLY REALLY fun. I loved the graphics, those graphics in that demo are about the same graphics you see in Far Cry TODAY. hehehe. I'll dig up my post and edit this to include the link right now... hold on....

I don't know.  I used that demo a while ago.  I remember they had pictures on their site for Farcry then too.  They were all indoors pictures.  That was about 2-3 years ago.

cosntable2, ......There were no indoor pics.  That dinosaur demo was done on an island. Open space. I ran the demo on my computer.  I was able to roam freely all over the island.

Re: Far Cry Preview discussion

It looks like they later modified the demo for GeForce 3, but it was originally released to showcase with the GeForce 2 could do.  The demo was first presented at ECTS in 2000, and you can read about it and see a screenshot here: http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=874  You can download the apparently GeForce 3 version from here: http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=455. It was pretty much all outdoor, but there was one cave on the island Millerboy.  And you could zoom up on tiny little critters that were wandering around.  :smileyvery-happy:

Here are some screenshots from the Geforce3 version, the pics are amazing at that time.  http://www.nvidia.com/object/dinoisle.html

The pics look ugly as shit on the Geforce2 video card, here is a sample from the Geforce2: http://www.eurogamer.net/view_screenshot.php?image=/assets/converted/pics/interviews/crytek/cryb.jpg

My consclusion is that AA, or anti-aliasing, means the world to computer games right now.  I hope that every video card this year, even the low-end ones, will be able to run 4xAA at 1024x768 res on all games.

I know.  I realized what I did right after I did it.  And by then it was too late.  The damage was done and I was too lazy to delete it and edit the other one.

Re: Far Cry Preview discussion

God dude, I just played the full version of Far Cry. That game is very hard and there are no codes for it. I hate it when people make these extermely realistic games that when you get hurt 2 times, you're dead. It's so stupid, oh yeah, I love to reload the game back at the checkpoint for the 20th time only to die at the same spot.

Has anyone even beat this game yet?

Re: Far Cry Preview discussion

I forget who mentioned it, but if you go to console(tilde) and type in /save_game then it will save anywhere you want, not just at the checkpoint.

I think the game is great on realistic mode, one of the best FPSes I've played in a while. Awesome AI. But I hate Painkiller's SP so that tells you where my opinions lie.

Re: Far Cry Preview discussion

Yeah I'm on my second time through now with the game. Using the quicksave option is the best though millerboy.Helps when you die alot hehe like the first time through. just type in \save_game 1 in the console then you can just type in \load_game 1 if you die

Re: Far Cry Preview discussion

I just beat the game 7 hours straight. I used codes though and it's on medium. I went through the whole game with god mode and all weapons and ammo. It was pretty fun.

Even on medium, it's very hard. And I had the warez version so it wouldn't load into the next level, so I was like stuck going through some levels, like running around with no clip, like flying through walls and stuff. Trying to find the exit to the next level. But I killed 95% of the bad guys, it was on medium and there were too  many bad guys, I wonder how hard it would be on Realistic or Hard.

"This game is impossible to beat in the 7 hours straight that I played it without codes"... I used codes to beat it in 7 hours. I have to admit, this game is more fun than Half-Life. While, you're playing you don't realize how realistic and fantastic the graphics are. You have to have a GeforceFX 5950 or ATI Radeon 9800XT to appreciate the graphics. And even with my beefy PC (specs in my signature), I couldn't handle the game sometimes. The frames per second were very laggy, around 5-10fps, around times when there are a lot of bad guys and I had my flashlight turned on.

It's horrible to play like that. I can't believe the amazing graphics, they look like real-life. I loved the storyline. I downloaded the cracked version, it's 3.6 GB. haha, but I'm going to buy this game in the store for sure as soon as I can. I don't like to freeload off developers when they try hard to make a good game like Far Cry.
