Ever find it hard to organize your friends for gaming?

Xfire makes that problem a thing of the past. It's a small, lean IM client, and it doesn't interrupt games when you get a message. More importantly, it lists what game your friends are playing, what server they're on, the ping, and the number of players on the server. You just double-click and it loads the game and server. Combine this with a private Ventrilo or TeamSpeak server, and you've got a killer team app.

That's cool and everything, but the last thing I need is another fargin messenger. If they made it into an addon for aim, that be cool, kinda like deadaim.

Yeah, but AIM breaks games, this doesn't.

Well, I live under the same roof as 5 other people, and 4 of them play CS, so there is never really a problem to get a match going...I just have to yell a lot :smileytongue:

Never had a problem with aim running while playing games. Then again, I don't get messages on aim, I use Naim for BSD instead. I only really have aim open so I can check away messages and stuff, something you can't do in naim. Regardless, I have over 100 people on my buddy list for Aim and it just be easier to get somehow get this to work with that. Or maybe set XFire up to connect to the aim servers, like trillian and other messenger programs. That be nice, then I would totally use it.

Re: Ever find it hard to organize your friends for gaming?

I've used Xfire since the alpha and it's really a useful program.  I use AIM to chat to my RL friends or others that I don't play games with but if I wanna play a game with a friend (like RA3) then it's pretty simple to just have him on my list and follow him.  We used to do this before Xfire and wed spend way too much time on IRC exchanging IPs and then Id have to hop on to see if my ping was ok..Xfire even pings the server for you.

Re: Ever find it hard to organize your friends for gaming?

Trillian is a great program but I used it when it first came out. So I have had a bad experience.  AOL always modified their server code enough so that only AIM can access AIM. It's really annoying to have to wait for the developers of Trillian to update their software every time AOL decides to block out Trillian users.  So AOL's always going to protect their customer base because right now they are killing MSN Messenger and Yahoo Messenger.  But I haven't tried Trillian recently, has things settled down on the copyright and server issues?

I use AIM, but my friends use trillian and apparently, its much better now. I know it work with AIM still, so they aren't blocking it yet.

Does anyone here even use Trillian?

Other than it using less resources, I didn't find it that much better (about 1.5 years ago). Has it got any new features since then?

Re: Ever find it hard to organize your friends for gaming?

I can attest to this program being MORE than worth the download.  Who cares if you have 27 IM clients running?  This one is perfect for games - just hit the join button, bada-boom, bada-bing!  You're playing a game!  Now if they'd only hurry and add voice support, then it'd be perfect for me...

I use Roger Wilco for voice support during games or anything.
