I loaded a page on these dear forums and watched my router's system load jump from 0.07 to 0.23. Taking a peek at the connection table revealed that, across my entire network, there were approximately 488 open sockets, and 292 of them were for FS!
I've always wondered why FS is so slow to load, but now I know my answer. This is absolutely insane. Most of them were left in TIME_WAIT state and just a few minutes later (with no FS page loads) I'm back down to floating around 90-ish connections.
Honestly I was not specifically investigating FS... I noticed my net was running slow and logged into my router (WRT54G running DDWRT) to poke around and noticed that the routing table was dominated by FS' IP address. At first I thought it was a virus... but nope...
Seriously guys, this is terrible. This is with adblock enabled. These forums practically destroy my iPhone... now I know why. You do realize the maximum connection table on a lot of stock routers is 512 right? One page load and you guys consume half of that. 
Same thing here. I noticed at work that my connection was slowing down. At first I thought it was Firefox and shut it down. Then my switch and recycled it. Then as a test I loaded back up and didn't load Firing squad, my connection ran just fine until then. I didn't even look at my router. I'll take a look when I get in and see what it shows for me.
