Re: New Forum Look

You know Egg, I never even thought of the Quick Look section. I never use it... yeah, it can go.... also agree on the fixed width being wider than the casual computer user 800by600 that's been around for years now... 17" @ 1024x768 is pretty much gone for us....

Re: New Forum Look

I'd say the lowest res anyone in here is running is 1280x1024, and that's by far the minority.  The average is probably 1680x1050, with a large percentage at 1920x1200 and a few running 2560x1600.

That way, there's only one place for you to check for all the stuff that's only new to you. If most users out here wish to view Unread posts and not unread discussions by default, we could easily do that. Its just a configuration change we need to make on our end.
Oh yeah, I think it's great to have all the new posts in one place. The only issue is the fact that I'm brought to the beginning of the threads instead of the first post I haven't yet read. If that's an easy change, then please implement it!

I might say that there are some who would browse on a 1280x720 laptop, but that's still wider than 1024.  My laptop is 1440x900, which is only 14,700 less pixels than 1280x1024.

edit: and yea, quick look is part of the FS site, not lithium boards.  I guess it could go, as it's broken 95+% of the time and when it does work isn't updated frequently.

Re: New Forum Look

Hey Pam, for some reason we're unable to visit the forums using IE7. At work, I get a message that states "unable to view" pages and the screen goes white like when you click on an inactive link. Any idea what might be causing that? It just started doing that recently.

Re: New Forum Look

The width adjustment is at least a nice step in the right direction.  Thanks guys.  I'd say the next biggest thing would be implementing a way to distinguish the pinned topics from the normal ones (a different color, etc).

I also find the "Unread Topics" and "Active Areas" sections to be redundant and mostly useless (I like to enter the forum section and look for myself), but they're at least ignorable.

Re: New Forum Look

Just having a stupid moment. I had cleared all the read messages and when i came back to the page, the Community section was at the top... I thought they'd moved it there.... I hate the unread messages being at the top and there not being a way I could set them in my profile to simply not be there at all...

Re: New Forum Look

We will be moving the unread posts widget to the right and it won't come in the way of your community browsing.

Re: New Forum Look

you're welcome! The change is in effect now. The unread posts widget is moved to the right, out of your way and we changed the community level to show unread posts and not unread discussions. To view all unread posts, click on view all and there you can switch between discussions view and posts view. Enjoy!

Sorry, can't enjoy. Not at work anyway. Can't visit the forums using IE7. Can you guys make this issue a priority?

Man, the new look today is great!  I love the color scheme to differentiate stickied threads and then the subtle alternating background color to the other posts helps keep them all separate.  This works great for me.  I appreciate the ongoing work that has gone into improving these forums lately.

Fish,  No IE8 or option for Firefox / Chrome / Safari etc at your work?  Strange.  As the admin at my company I actively encourage my users to move away from the mess that is IE.

^ Not a chance.  I had to sneak to update my Flash Player and a few other things.  A guy had signed into my computer as an admin to fix an issue and I took control when he stepped away to use the can.  It's like that here.

Yeah, at school I can't access the forums either because we're stuck using IE7. This is a FiringSquad Forums only error. I can access other Lithium forums just fine.

Agreed.  It's MUCH easier to visually separate the stickied threads from the normal posts now.  Thanks guys

Ouch.  That is harsh.  We'd have riots if rules like that were implemented around here.

Are you allowed to use USB flash drives at least?  How about something like this

Re: New Forum Look

I wanted to note that the HTML preview editor still takes 5-10+ seconds to load on my net connection, and as soon as it does focus shifts to the Subject field in the middle of typing.

Also, trying to hit "quote" while it is loading results in an "Unexpected error has occurred"

Any way you guys can make the html editor be the very first thing to load?

I just tried it... it's definitely neat. If I ever need to find an old thread, I'll likely be able to find it quicker. :smileyhappy:

Oh, and thanks for the recent changes.

Yeah, I know about Portable Apps.  I have a friend who uses them.  Yes, you can use Flash drives, but the organization has discouraged the use, threatening to use some code that will render drives, cameras and mp3 players useless if they're connected.  Total bullshit of course, but it scares enough people away from using them.
